Workers Party president Rashed Khan Menon has been placed on a five-day remand in a case lodged over murder of trader Abdul Wadud in Dhaka's New Market area during student movement.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ali Haider passed the order as police produced Menon, a key leader of the Awami League-led 14-Party Alliance, before the court and pleaded to place him on 10-day remand in the case.

Menon was arrested from capital's Gulshan area on 22 August.

Wadud was shot in front of New Market 1st gate on 19 July. His relative Abdur Rahman filed the case with capital's New Market Police Station on 21 August against 130 people including ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and Obaidul Quader.
