Millions of people took to the streets today in over 1,300 “Hands Off!” rallies across the United States and worldwide, protesting against what they see as authoritarian overreach by President Donald Trump and tech mogul Elon Musk.

Spanning all 50 states, US territories, and a dozen international locations, the demonstrations marked the largest collective action since Trump’s inauguration, with turnout surpassing expectations.

Participants from diverse backgrounds—nurses, teachers, students, parents, and workers—gathered to express their concerns over policies they believe threaten fundamental rights, freedoms, and democratic values.

“This movement is powered by everyday people who refuse to stay silent while their rights and democracy are under attack,” said Rahna Epting, Executive Director of MoveOn, one of the lead organizations behind the protests.

Key grievances driving the protests include efforts to weaken workers’ rights, dismantle healthcare programs, and raise the cost of living for millions of Americans. Protesters also voiced opposition to policies they argue undermine social security, civil rights, and education.

“The message is clear: Take your hands off our healthcare, our social security, our civil rights, our freedom, and our education,” a protester declared at a rally in New York City.

Solidarity demonstrations were also held in multiple international cities, highlighting global concerns over the impact of US policies on democracy and international relations.

Organizers emphasized that this was just the beginning of an ongoing movement, vowing to continue opposing policies they see as harmful. “We won’t stop until we’ve secured a better future for our children, our communities, and our country,” Epting affirmed.
