The United States has temporarily suspended military assistance to Ukraine, a decision taken by President Trump following a dispute with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House. Several media reports confirmed the move on Monday local time.
According to Fox News, the suspension will remain in place until Trump is convinced that Ukraine’s leadership is genuinely committed to peace. Citing an official from the Trump administration, the report clarified that the decision is not a permanent cessation of aid but a temporary measure.
The freeze applies to military equipment currently not in Ukraine, including weaponry en route via aircraft or naval transport, as well as those awaiting entry into Ukraine from Poland. To implement this decision, Trump has directed Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth to ensure the suspension is enforced.
The announcement surfaced just hours after Trump told journalists at the White House that he had not discussed withholding military support to Ukraine. However, he remarked that Zelensky ought to show greater appreciation for Washington’s assistance.
The United States has provided Ukraine with military support worth several billion dollars over the course of its nearly three-year-long war against Russia.
