Former Shipping Minister and Awami League Presidium Member Shahjahan Khan has been granted seven days of remand.

Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court issued the order on Friday afternoon, following a police request for a ten-day remand.

Shahjahan Khan, also the Executive President of the Bangladesh Sarak Paribahan Sramik Federation, was arrested by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) from Dhanmondi, Dhaka, last night in connection with a murder case.

Khan, who represented the Madaripur-2 constituency, was first elected as an independent candidate in 1986. He has since been re-elected from the same constituency in 1991, 1996, 2001, 2008, 2014, 2018, and 2024 as a candidate of the Awami League.
