The Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) has appointed seven new independent directors for the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE).
"DSE board consists of 13 directors. Among them, seven are independent, five are shareholders and strategic investors, and one is an ex-officio managing director with voting rights," said a BSEC press release on Monday (2 September).
The independent directors are KAM Majedur Rahman, former MD at DSE; Professor Major General (Retd) Mohammad Quamruzzaman, Dr Nahid Hossain, joint secretary at Financial Institutions Division; Dr Mohammed Helal Uddin, director of research at Centre on Integrated Rural Development for Asia and the Pacific (CIRDAP); Brigadier General Md Mofizul Islam Rashed, Syed Hammadul Karim, former GM of Metlife Bangladesh; Mohammed Ishaque Miah, MD and CEO of Bangladesh Data Center and Disaster Recovery Site and chief information security officer of Bangladesh Bank (Lien).
Earlier on 20 August, the BSEC directed all independent directors of the DSE and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) to resign from the board.
