The interim government's adviser for the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology, Nahid Islam, has announced that the investigation into the digital crackdown will begin today.
"Cutting off the internet or limiting its speed constitutes a violation of human rights. Everyone has the right to access information, and obstructing this right by withholding the truth is a breach of human rights. On my very first day at the Secretariat, I will initiate an investigation into those responsible for the nationwide internet shutdown and digital crackdown during the student protests," he said while speaking to journalists at the Secretariat on Sunday (11 August).
On 8 August, the much-discussed interim government was formed, bringing together a blend of the experienced and the new.
The 17-member advisory council, led by Nobel Peace Prize laureate Dr Muhammad Yunus, saw 14 of its members sworn in at Bangabhaban by President Mohammed Sahabuddin.
Two coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Students Movement were included in the new government.
