The Fire Service has teamed up with students who have been managing traffic for the past three days, in absence of police force who stopped working after the ousting of Sheikh Hasina amid nationwide protests.
In a press release issued by the agency's media cell on Thursday, the traffic police stated that members of the Fire Service and Civil Defence, along with their volunteers, have been working alongside students to control traffic in Dhaka and across the country from 8 August.
They have been deployed at key traffic points in the capital and other important locations nationwide to prevent the traffic system from collapsing in the absence of traffic police.
The operation is being overseen by Director (Operations and Maintenance) Lt. Colonel Mohammad Tajul Islam Chowdhury, under the guidance of Brigadier General Md. Main Uddin, Director General of the Fire Service and Civil Defence Directorate.
Commenting on the initiative, Lt. Colonel Tajul Islam Chowdhury said, "The Fire Service and Civil Defence are always there to assist people in times of crisis. Given the current gap in traffic management, our members and volunteers have stepped in to fulfill this role."
