The Awami League has announced rallies across all districts and metropolitan areas, though top leaders were notably absent amid rumours of program cancellations.

Activists started gathering at Awami League's central office as the party announced rallies at the district, metropolitan, and ward levels across the country, including Dhaka.

Party members started gathering in front of the AL central office at 23 Bangabandhu Avenue from 8am on Sunday (4 August).

Their numbers gradually increased as the morning progressed, with members arriving in small processions.

Although top leaders from the party and its allied organisations were notably absent.

Shafiul Alam Shafiq, the publicity secretary of the Awami Matsyajibi League, told Bangladesh First Awami League's grassroots members are prepared to give a fitting response to the movement, which he claimed is not in the hands of the protesters anymore.

Despite the escalating situation, no top leaders of Dhaka Metropolitan South Awami League, including its president and general secretary, were seen by 10am, when this report was filed.

Similarly, senior leaders of affiliated organisations such as Jubo League, Matsyajibi League, Krishak League, Swechchhasebak League, Mohila Awami League, and Jubo Mohila League were also absent from the central office.

Meanwhile, rumours about the cancellation of Awami League's programmes have been spreading on social media since last night.

However, party sources confirmed that the programmes had not been cancelled and alleged that fake press releases were being circulated to mislead party members.
