Intern doctors and students of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) have said they will persist with their protests if the government fails to address the nine-point demand presented by students.

The agitating students made the announcement braving monsoon rain during a protest rally at the Central Shaheed Minar in the capital at around 11am on Friday (2 August).

At that time they voiced their grievances against the government’s labelling of the protesters as affiliated with Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing the Islami Chhatra Shibir.

They also that police officers had unjustly arrested protesting students under this pretext from the High Court on Wednesday (31 August).

"We are supposed to be in hospitals, but today we stand on the streets protesting the killing of our brothers who had been shot dead," said one of the protesting medical students.

Another resident doctor from DMCH said, "People from all walks of life have taken to the streets to protest the killing of students. As members of the medical community, we cannot remain passive. We are here not to fulfil any political agenda but to seek justice for the killing of our fellow students."
