'Sundarbans Honey' is being registered as a geographical indication (GI) product of Bangladesh.

According to the Department of Patents, Designs, and Trademarks (DPDT) under the Ministry of Industries, the registration process is underway.

All information in a journal form has been prepared after reviewing the application of the Deputy Commissioner of Bagerhat and sent to the BG Press.

If no objections or oppositions are received within two months from the date of publication of the journal, the product will be registered as a GI product, reads a press release of the Ministry of Industries.

The application for GI registration of 'Sundarbans Honey' was originally filed on August 7, 2017, by the Deputy Commissioner of Bagerhat, following which DPDT conducted an examination. DPDT then requested additional information on the matter.

Upon DPDT's request, Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) prepared an examination report on the nutritional qualities of Sundarbans Honey and submitted it.

Additionally, due to the unavailability of requested information and other details, a hearing was conducted, during which information was sought from the district administration of Bagerhat. The applicant submitted the requested information again on 27 June 2024.
