Quazi Abu Mahmud Faisal, Additional Tax Commissioner and a first secretary in the National Board of Revenue (NBR), has been transferred to Bogura amid allegations of his involvement in corruption.
The National Board of Revenue issued a notification ordering Faisal’s transfer on Sunday (June 30).
Earlier, on 27 June, Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Mohammed Ash-Shams Joglul Hossain ordered the confiscation of his assets, acting on a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
The ACC claimed that Faisal had exploited his official position to engage in bribery, opening over 700 bank accounts in his name and those of his relatives to conceal the origins of his corrupt earnings.
The ACC has provided a detailed account of Faisal's assets to the court.
In a related investigation, NBR officer Md Matiur Rahman and his family were discovered to own vast properties, including 65 bighas (2,145 decimals) of land, eight flats, two resorts and picnic spots, and two industrial establishments.
