At least one passenger was killed and three others were injured after a Starline Service bus overturned on Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Sitakunda upazila of Chattogram.
The incident took place around 9am on Saturday morning in Fakirhat area.
The injured—Arif, 30, from Noakhali; Abdul Motaleb, 52, from Cumilla; and Shwapna Rani, 49, from Feni—are receiving treatment at Chattogram Medical College and Hospital (CMCH), said the hospital’s police outpost Sub-Inspector Nurul Alam Ashik. The identity of the victim could not be known immediately, he added.
Chattogram Divisional Fire Service’s Deputy Assistant Director Abdur Razzaque said upon receiving information, three firefighting units from Kumira and Agrabad fire service stations were dispatched to the scene immediately.
Four passengers who were stuck inside the bus were rescued during the operation, Razzaque said. One of them was declared dead when they were taken to CMCH, he said.
The driver fled the scene, said Razzaque, adding that the bus might have overturned due to high speed amid rain.
The passenger bus was traveling to Feni from Chattogram, he added.
