Govt sets Tk55.97 lakh crore as GDP target for upcoming fiscal year

The government has set a target of increasing the gross domestic product (GDP) at market price to Tk55.97 lakh crore in the next financial year.

The Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) projection said the GDP size will rise to Tk50.48 lakh crore in the current financial year.

While GDP growth at market prices is targeted at around 10.88%, growth at constant prices is targeted at 6.75%.

The real growth target is set at 6.5% minus inflation.

While the current fiscal year budget has set a growth target of 7.5%, BBS has pegged the provisional growth at 5.82%.

The achievement was 5.78% against the same target last fiscal.

According to the BBS, The growth target has not been met in any year in the last decade except 2018-19.

To achieve the growth target for the new fiscal year, the size of private investment needs to ensure an investment of 27.34% of GDP. To meet the target, private investment will have to increase by another 3.83 percentage points to 23.51% of GDP in the current fiscal year.
