A court here today placed one Hridoy Miaji, 23, on a seven-day remand in a case lodged over the brutal killing of Zahidul Islam Parvez, a student of the Textile Engineering Department at Primeasia University, in the city's Banani area on 19 April.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sanaullah passed the order as police produced the accused before the court and pleaded to place him on a 10-day remand in the case.
A team of the RAB-11 arrested Hridoy Miaji from Monairkandi village under Titas upazila in Cumilla district on 21 April last.
The same court on 21 April placed three people, Md Al Kamal Sheikh alias Kamal, Alvi Hossain Junaid and Al Amin Sunny on a seven-day remand each in the case.
Earlier on 19 April, Zahidul Islam Parvez, a third-year student of the Textile Engineering Department at Primeasia University and his friend Md Tariqul Islam were attacked with country-made weapons by a group of individuals on the road in front of the university.
Later, Parvez, who sustained critical injuries, was rushed to Kurmitola General Hospital where on-duty doctor declared him dead.
On 20 April, Parvez's cousin Humayun Kabir filed the case with Banani Police Station, naming eight individuals and accusing 25-30 people in total, of involvement in the crime.
