The interim government has decided to implement 111 reform proposals concerning the electoral system, judiciary, police, public administration, and the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) before initiating dialogues with political parties, following the recommendations of the Consensus Commission.
According to reports published in newspapers, other reform proposals will be finalised through discussions with political parties.
On Wednesday, the Cabinet Division issued letters to relevant ministry advisers, notifying them about the implementation of these 111 reform measures.
Meanwhile, political dialogues with the Consensus Commission are set to commence on Thursday (20 March).
The first meeting will be held at 3 PM in the LD Hall of the Parliament building with the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP).
The commission will subsequently engage in discussions with other parties in phases.
Prioritising Immediate Implementation
Cabinet Secretary Sheikh Abdur Rashid informed the media that the government has taken the initiative to implement reforms that do not require political consensus and can be executed in a short period.
As part of this effort, ministries and divisions have been directed to prepare for implementing the relevant proposals.
According to him, the proposals include:
- Judiciary Reform Commission: 28 recommendations
- ACC Reform Commission: 43 recommendations
- Public Administration Reform Commission: 18 recommendations
- Police Reform Commission: 13 recommendations
- Electoral System Reform Commission: 9 recommendations
Out of the 11 reform commissions formed for state restructuring, six have already submitted their recommendations to the government.
During a meeting of the Advisory Council on 13 March, it was decided that the implementation of 111 proposals would begin immediately.
The ministries concerned will finalise their implementation strategies and submit them to the Cabinet Division.
Among the six commissions that have submitted reports, the recommendations of the Constitutional Reform Commission will be implemented only after political discussions.
Law Adviser Professor Asif Nazrul has finalised only those recommendations that are immediately feasible for implementation.
