Bangladesh’s economic condition remains robust and is expected to improve further after its graduation from the Least Developed Country (LDC) category, said Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam.

Speaking at a press conference on Sunday (16 March) at the Foreign Service Academy on Bailey Road in Dhaka, he expressed confidence in the country’s economic trajectory.

He also disagreed with the Centre for Policy Dialogue’s (CPD) projection that Bangladesh’s export sector could suffer an annual loss of $8 billion due to the withdrawal of tariff benefits post-graduation.

The conference was attended by Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Mazumdar and Senior Assistant Press Secretary Fayez Ahammed.

A day earlier, on Saturday (15 March), CPD Executive Director Dr Fahmida Khatun had expressed concerns that Bangladesh’s business community was unprepared for the challenges of LDC graduation.

Speaking at a shadow parliament session on LDC graduation challenges at the Film Development Corporation (FDC), she warned that the cessation of tariff privileges could lead to substantial export losses and a reduction in climate finance assistance from development partners.
