Since assuming office for a second term, US President Donald Trump has repeatedly issued warnings against India over trade policies, accusing the country of imposing exorbitant tariffs on American goods.
Trump has now claimed that India levies tariffs exceeding 100%, making it difficult for US companies to compete fairly in the Indian market, reports the NDTV.
Despite Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent visit to the United States and discussions with Trump, trade policies remain unchanged.
Speaking from the Oval Office last Friday (7 March), Trump once again took a swipe at India over tariffs, asserting that his administration had exposed Delhi’s long-standing practices.
He insisted that India would now be compelled to reduce duties.
"India imposes massive taxes on us. We can hardly sell anything in their market. But now they have agreed to lower tariffs because I have laid bare their long-standing practices," Trump stated.
