The National Citizen Party (NCP), a recently established political entity, is set to form youth, women, and labour wings as part of its organisational expansion.
The youth wing has already commenced its activities, while the structural framework for the women’s and labour wings is expected to be finalised within the next month.
In tandem with the core party, these auxiliary wings will be overseen by central leaders to ensure effective management.
Speaking to this newspaper, NCP’s Joint Member Secretary Abdullah Al Amin stated, “We are initiating activities for our youth, women, and labour wings. Responsibilities for the youth wing have already been assigned, and we aim to establish the formats for the women’s and labour wings within a month. NCP seeks to introduce a new political framework in light of Bangladesh’s current landscape and is committed to reaching people from all walks of life.”
Party insiders revealed that Advocate Tarikul Islam, the joint chief coordinator, has been entrusted with leading the youth wing.
On Wednesday (5 March), he convened a meeting with Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari, attended by young individuals from various parts of the capital.
When approached for comment, Tarikul Islam remarked, “As an affiliate body of the Citizens' Party, our youth wing will soon commence its activities in an official capacity, maintaining a distinct identity.”
Regarding the meeting, he noted, “We engaged in preliminary discussions, though the official name has yet to be finalised.”
Meanwhile, the labour wing has been placed under the leadership of Joint Chief Coordinator Mazharul Islam Fakir, who previously oversaw the National Citizens’ Committee’s labour cell.
Speaking about the wing’s progress, he stated, “We are in the process of structuring our activities and engaging with various labour organisations. At this stage, our efforts remain in their infancy, and the name has not been finalised. However, we anticipate completing all necessary steps for the wing’s formation in due course.”
Since its inception, NCP has drawn considerable attention within political circles, particularly following a statement by Chief Organiser (North) Sarjis Alam regarding electoral matters, which sparked widespread reactions.
Party sources indicate that NCP is actively working to expand its organisational reach to the grassroots level while simultaneously pursuing official registration, including finalising its electoral symbol and constitution.
In a bid to establish a formidable presence in the political arena, the party is strengthening its internal structure through the formation of various wings.
Additionally, it intends to establish professional organisations beyond its direct political activities, with plans to create an independent body for medical professionals.
NCP leaders and activists have also intensified their presence on social media as part of their expansion strategy.
A dedicated page, Nagarik Party Dakshinanchal (Citizen Party South Region), has been launched, with Chief Organiser (South) Hasnat Abdullah announcing forthcoming interactions with residents of the concerned districts.
