Issuing a stern warning against any form of mob violence, Mahfuj Alam, an adviser to the interim government, declared that the authorities would henceforth deal with such acts with an iron hand.
“If you support the mass uprising, desist from engaging in mob actions. Those who resort to mob violence will be treated as adversaries of the state. Following today’s incident, no further appeals will be made. It is not your prerogative to take the law into your own hands,” he wrote on his verified Facebook account on Tuesday (11 February).
In an unequivocal message, he added, “From this point forward, we will confront so-called movements and mob demonstrations with unwavering resolve. Any attempt to destabilise the state or portray it as ineffective will be met with zero tolerance.”
Addressing a specific audience, he cautioned, “Touhidi Janata, after a decade and a half, you have been afforded the opportunity to practise your religion and culture in peace. Do not let recklessness or extremism jeopardise this hard-earned tranquillity.”
The statement underscores the government’s intent to restore and maintain public order amid ongoing tensions.
