Bangladesh has advanced four positions in the latest Henley Passport Index 2025, securing the 93rd spot out of 99 countries.

However, this improvement in ranking comes with a paradoxical decline in travel privileges, as the number of visa-free destinations accessible to Bangladeshi passport holders has fallen from 42 in 2024 to 39 this year.

Despite this upward shift from last year’s 97th position, Bangladesh's passport remains among the weakest globally.

Nepal and Pakistan trail closely behind, occupying the 94th and 96th ranks, respectively.

Singapore retains its dominance at the pinnacle of the index, with its passport granting visa-free access to 193 destinations.

Japan and South Korea follow closely, each offering their citizens entry to 190 destinations without prior visas.

Several European nations, including Germany, France, and Spain, share the third position, providing access to 189 destinations.

Conversely, Afghanistan remains at the bottom of the index, with its passport holders able to travel visa-free to merely 25 countries.

Within South Asia, the Maldives holds the strongest passport, ranked 52nd with visa-free access to 93 countries.

India stands at 80th place, granting access to 56 destinations, while Bhutan ranks 83rd with 51 visa-free destinations.

Myanmar follows in 88th position with 45 such destinations, and Sri Lanka is placed 91st, offering access to 42 countries without prior visas.

Nepal and Pakistan continue to languish near the bottom of the index, providing visa-free access to only 38 and 32 destinations, respectively.

The Henley Passport Index, curated by UK-based Henley & Partners, relies on exclusive data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

The index ranks 199 passports based on the number of destinations their holders can visit without securing a visa in advance, encompassing 227 travel destinations worldwide.
