A total of 37,000 metric tonnes of rice, imported under government arrangements and open tenders, has arrived in Bangladesh, said Ministry of Food Senior Information and Public Relations Officer Imdad Islam on Wednesday (29 January).

Under a government-to-government (G2G) agreement, Myanmar has supplied 22,000 metric tonnes of Atap rice, which was delivered to Chittagong Port aboard the MV ATN Victory.

Meanwhile, 15,000 metric tonnes of parboiled rice, procured through an open tender from India, arrived at the port via the MV BMC Pandora.

Imdad Islam stated that the Department of Food had overseen the import process from both countries and that preparations were in place to begin unloading the shipments without delay.

Necessary logistical measures have already been taken to facilitate a swift discharge from the vessels.
