Interim government Advisor Mahfuz Alam has declared that the Awami League will not be allowed to participate in the upcoming elections, describing the party as fascist and anti-Bangladesh
He made these remarks while exchanging greetings with students and locals at Hajiganj Bazaar in Chandpur on Saturday (25 January).
Addressing the gathering, Mahfuz Alam stated, "The elections will be contested among pro-Bangladesh groups only. Political parties, including BNP, Jamaat, student organisations, workers, women, and religious scholars who align with the interests of Bangladesh, will be part of the election process."
"They will create a just and non-discriminatory system for the people of Bangladesh," he added.
Mahfuz outlined the government's priorities, saying, "Our primary focus is to ensure justice for victims of murders, abductions, and assaults. We aim to carry out reforms and hold a fair election with the participation of all pro-Bangladesh political parties. This has not been achieved in the last 16 years."
The event was attended by Hajiganj Upazila Executive Officer Taposh Shil, Officer-in-Charge of Hajiganj Police Station Mohiuddin Farooq, leaders of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, Chandpur Citizens' Committee, and numerous leaders and activists from the Islamic Student Movement.
