British MP Tulip Siddiq has resigned from her post as city minister following allegations of financial ties to the government led by Bangladesh’s deposed prime minister and her maternal aunt, Sheikh Hasina.
Elon Musk, the American billionaire, reacted to the resignation, posting on social media platform X that "the Minister for Child Welfare is shielding criminals, while their anti-corruption minister is corrupt!"

Calls for Tulip Siddiq’s resignation had intensified after British media reported allegations of falsehoods and unethical financial benefits.
Investigations revealed Siddiq owned several flats linked to individuals associated with the Awami League and Sheikh Hasina.
Concurrently, Bangladesh's Anti-Corruption Commission is probing embezzlement allegations tied to the Rooppur Nuclear Power Project.
Laurie Magnus, UK Prime Minister Kier Starmer’s independent adviser, was tasked with reviewing whether Tulip Siddiq breached the ministerial code.
While Magnus found no definitive evidence of a code violation, he stopped short of exonerating Tulip Siddiq.
He advised Siddiq to be more cautious of the potential reputational risks stemming from her family’s connections to Bangladesh.
Tulip Siddiq submitted her resignation to Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who has since appointed Emma Reynolds as her successor.
She was elected as a Member of Parliament for the fourth consecutive term last year, representing Hampstead and Highgate.
