US President-elect Donald Trump has claimed that the recent ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, along with the release of hostages, occurred as a result of his victory in the US presidential election.
In a statement shared on social media late on Wednesday (15 January), following the announcement of the ceasefire, Trump welcomed the agreement and asserted its historic nature.
Trump remarked, “This historic ceasefire agreement may have been influenced by our landmark victory in November.”
The ceasefire is expected to proceed in phases.
During the initial 42-day period, Hamas has released 33 out of approximately 100 hostages within Gaza.
Trump expressed gratitude to his advisor, Jason Greenblatt, and committed to ensuring that Gaza never becomes a safe haven for terrorists again, pledging that the United States will continue to work closely with Israel and its allies.
