The preliminary investigation report on the fire incident at the Bangladesh Secretariat will be submitted to Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Monday.
Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Abul Kamal Azad Majumder confirmed the submission at a press conference held in front of the State Guest House Jamuna on Sunday.
“The probe body will submit its report on the Secretariat fire to the Chief Adviser tomorrow, and he will decide whether the report will be made public,” Majumder stated.
He further explained that the investigation team has collected various pieces of evidence related to the fire, some of which are undergoing examination domestically. If necessary, additional evidence will be sent abroad for analysis.
On December 26, 2024, the government formed an eight-member probe committee to investigate the Secretariat fire and instructed it to submit its preliminary report within three days. The senior secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs was appointed as the head of the committee.
Other members of the committee include: the secretary of the Housing and Public Works Ministry, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), the Chief of Fire Service and Civil Defense (who is also the member secretary), an explosive expert from the armed forces, and three experts from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) — Dr. Tanvir Mansur, Dr. Yasir Arafat, and Yasir Arafat (civil, chemical, and electronic engineers).
Addressing rumors, the Deputy Press Secretary clarified that journalists’ accreditation cards for the Secretariat have not been canceled. However, access has been temporarily restricted for investigative purposes.
“From Monday, journalists will be allowed entry to the Secretariat with temporary passes. Initially, 160 journalists and 40 television crew members will receive these passes,” he added.
