Yunus’ leadership is a boon for Bangladesh: José Ramos-Horta

East Timor President José Ramos-Horta extolled Dr Muhammad Yunus as a symbol of Bangladesh’s good fortune and expressed a keen interest in bolstering economic ties during his visit to Dhaka

José Ramos-Horta, the president of East Timor, described Dr Muhammad Yunus as a blessing for Bangladesh, citing his remarkable leadership and unparalleled academic accolades.

Ramos-Horta made these comments during a joint press conference held on Sunday (15 December), at the office of the Chief Adviser in Dhaka.

Highlighting Dr Yunus’ achievements, the visiting President noted that the Nobel laureate has earned over 100 honorary degrees, an extraordinary feat.

"He is perhaps the only leader in the world so highly honoured and academically accomplished. Bangladesh is fortunate to have his leadership," Ramos-Horta remarked.

Expressing East Timor’s aspirations for stronger bilateral ties, Ramos-Horta revealed his country’s interest in expanding economic and trade relations with Bangladesh in the coming years.

The president of East Timor arrived in Dhaka on Saturday (14 December), at 10:30pm for a four-day official visit.

He was warmly received at the airport by the Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus.
