Local Government, Rural Development, Cooperatives, and Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan has stated that the interim government does not endorse foreign relations that compromise national interests.

He remarked that the current administration has moved away from submissive foreign policies towards India, affirming that future diplomatic engagements will prioritise national interests.

Asif Mahmud made these comments on Wednesday (11 December), during a press briefing following the closing session of a workshop attended by an international delegation at Kotbari, Cumilla.

Addressing queries on local government elections, the LG&RDC adviser acknowledged the challenges faced by administrative officials, who are burdened with additional responsibilities due to the absence of elected representatives.

He stated that once the Reform Commission completes its work, measures will be taken to address the matter.

The workshop, chaired by Saif Uddin Ahmed, Director General of the Bangladesh Academy for Rural Development (BARD), also featured a virtual address by Dr Khushnud Ali, head of the Research Division at the African-Asian Rural Development Organisation, who participated as a special guest.
