Top rice trader Rashid arrested in fraudulent case

Rashid was arrested at Mojompur area around 5:00pm in a cheque dishonor case filed by farmer entrepreneur Atiqur Rahman, owner of Enam Feed Mill in Rajshahi.

Abdur Rashid, one of the country's top rice businessmen, also owner of Rashid Agro Food Products Ltd, was arrested in Kushtia city on Saturday (16 November) afternoon.

Kushtia Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shihabur Rahman Shihab said Rashid was arrested at Mojompur area around 5:00pm in a cheque dishonor case filed by farmer entrepreneur Atiqur Rahman, owner of Enam Feed Mill in Rajshahi.

It is learnt that Atikur Rahman paid Tk1,33,64,867  in advance to Rashid via check for raw materials for a feed mill.

However, Rashid did not supply the goods for over one and a half years. And, he did not refund the money despite asking frequently.

On August 13, 2023, Atikur Rahman filed a case against Rashid and his manager at the Rajshahi Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court.

The court summoned him to appear before it but he did not do so, leading to an arrest warrant. Eventually, he was arrested on Saturday.

Several financial institutions of the country, including Sonali Bank, Islami Bank, have filed 68 cases against Abdur Rashid and his family members for defaulting on loans.
