The BDR massacre will be re-investigated soon, said Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Mohammad Jahangir Alam Chowdhury.
"Formation of a commission for a renewed investigation into the tragic BDR massacre remains uncertain. However, he assured that regardless of the approach, a fresh investigation into the massacre will indeed take place," he said following his visit to the headquarters of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in Pilkhana, Dhaka on Monday (4 November).
Commenting on law and order, the adviser noted some improvement, stating, "The situation has somewhat improved, though there remains ample room for further progress. While it can be deemed satisfactory, it is by no means at an optimal level."
Addressing BGB members, he asserted that border security is paramount and non-negotiable, urging rigorous vigilance to prevent smuggling activities.
Meanwhile, the High Court has inquired whether a new commission has been formed to uncover the underlying causes behind the massacre.
On Sunday (3 November), Justices Farah Mahbub and Debashish Roy Chowdhury asked the state counsel to clarify the matter.
The lawyers representing the petitioners indicated that an order on this issue is expected to be issued on Tuesday.
The massacre in question dates back to 25-26 February 2009, when renegade members of the then Bangladesh Rifles (now Border Guard Bangladesh) launched a brutal rampage at the headquarters in Pilkhana under the guise of raising certain demands.
The carnage involved arson, looting, and mass killings, leading to the deaths of 74 individuals, including 57 army officers.
