The government has formed a 17-member committee to oversee the creation of the July Mass Uprising Memorial Museum. Dr. Ebadur Rahman, a writer and filmmaker, has been appointed as the convenor of the committee, with Chief Adviser’s Special Assistant Md. Mahfuz Alam serving as joint convenor.
Information and Broadcasting Adviser Md. Nahid Islam announced formation of the committee during a press briefing outside Ganabhaban on Saturday, according to a press release issued by the ministry.
The committee members include prominent figures from various fields: writer and human rights activist Mustain Billah; Jahid Sabuj from the Fine Arts Department at Jagannath University; Dr. Nurul Momen Bhuiyan from the Anthropology Department at National University; photographer and Shilpakala Academy Research and Publication Director Tanzim Wahab; writer and researcher Sahul Ahmed Munna; architect Marina Tabassum; the director generals of Bangladesh National Museum and Department of Archaeology; the chief engineer of the Public Works Department; the additional chief architect of the Department of Architecture Md. Asifur Rahman Bhuiyan; a representative from the Institute of Architects Bangladesh; architect Bayezid Mahbub Khandaker; and architect Tanzim Hasan Selim from Design Works Group.
The committee will also induct one or two student representatives at a later date.
Speaking to the media, Adviser Nahid highlighted the museum’s mission to preserve the memory of the repressive era spanning 16 years in Bangladesh, as well as the students' movement and their eventual victory. He added that they are considering constructing a replica of the iconic 'Ayna Ghar' (Glass House) within the museum, envisioned as a research and educational center on the history of the movement.
