An officer of the Bangladesh Army has been killed during a joint operation against robbers in Cox's Bazar's Chakaria upazila.
"Lieutenant Tanzeem Sarwar Nirjon was stabbed three times in the neck, and a knife was driven into his left eye in the Maizpara area of Dulhazara Union oi the early hours of Tuesday (24 September). He succumbed to his injuries before reaching the hospital," said the Inter-Services Public Relations Directorate (ISPR) through a brief statement.
"He was grievously injured and, while being transported to Cox’s Bazar hospital, succumbed to his injuries near Ramu," said Chakaria Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Manzur Kader Bhuiyan
According to the police, a military unit had been conducting an arms recovery operation in Maizpara village, Dulhazara, on Monday (23 September) night. At around 3:30am, the team encountered armed robbers. A physical altercation ensued between Lieutenant Tanzeem and one of the robbers, during which the assailants attacked him, critically injuring the army officer. He was rushed to Cox's Bazar hosHital but tragically died en route.
OC Manzur Kader Bhuiyan further stated that during the operation, three members of the robbery gang, including Ziabool and Belal, were arrested.
The body of the deceased army officer has been transported from Cox's Bazar General Hospital morgue to the Ramu Cantonment.
