The chairperson of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Khaleda Zia, who is currently residing in London, held a meeting with Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer, Shafiqur Rahman, and Naib-e-Amer, Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher.
The meeting took place on Sunday (13 April), at the London residence of BNP’s acting chairman, Tarique Rahman.
Maruf Kamal Khan, former press secretary to the BNP chairperson, disclosed the meeting in a verified Facebook post on Tuesday night (15 April).
According to Khan’s post, the Jamaat leaders recently returned to Bangladesh after their meeting with Khaleda Zia. The meeting, which was also attended by Tarique Rahman, took place at his London home.
He further noted that the agenda of the discussion between Khaleda Zia and the two senior Jamaat leaders remained undisclosed. Whether the meeting signals a new political alignment or was merely a courtesy call, he wrote, remains to be seen.
Khaleda Zia, who has been under medical supervision by specialists at a London clinic, is staying at her elder son Tarique Rahman's residence in the British capital.
