The sacrifice of students and the public in the July uprising has ushered in a new era, not only in the political landscape but also in the country’s cultural and societal spheres, observed Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus.

Speaking via a video message at the inauguration ceremony of the 7th National Comdeca at the Hard Point of the Sirajganj Town Protection Embankment on Thursday (20 February) afternoon, Yunus urged the nation to remain vigilant to ensure that no autocratic regime ever returns to power.

"The uprising of July 2024 was achieved at the cost of the blood of countless students, youths, and adolescents. Their sacrifice has led to the fall of the despotic regime and opened new avenues of possibility for the nation. Such sacrifices for the country never go in vain," he remarked.

The 7th National Comdeca, themed "Building an Egalitarian Society Through Scouting," has brought together scout members from across the country.

Highlighting the significance and cost of the July Revolution, Yunus reflected on the oppressive policies of the former regime that claimed many young lives.

He noted that the movement’s impact remains vivid in the graffiti on Dhaka’s walls, the images of bloodstained streets, and the slogans that echoed through the city.

Presiding over the event, the chairman of the 7th National Comdeca Organising Committee and Chief Secretary to the Chief Adviser, M Siraj Uddin Mia, delivered the welcome address.

The ceremony also featured speeches by Comdeca Chief Mir Mahbubur Rahman Snigdha and members of the Bangladesh Scouts Ad-hoc Committee, including Dr Md Aminul Islam, K M Rakibul Islam, and Farida Yasmin.

The 7th National Comdeca has drawn participation from 3,200 rovers, volunteers, unit leaders, and officials from 400 college and university units nationwide, with an overall attendance of nearly 5,000 scout members.
