Preparations for the upcoming national elections are progressing as per the timeline announced by Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus, said Election Commission Secretary Akhtar Ahmed.
"United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) will provide technical support and assist in compiling the voter list. A detailed list of the required types of assistance is expected from the UNDP within the next ten days," he said after a meeting with representatives from the UNDP at the commission's office in Agargaon on Tuesday (14 January).
UNDP has expressed its interest in supporting the national parliamentary elections in Bangladesh.
In line with this objective, a delegation from the UNDP met with the Election Commission on Tuesday to discuss potential areas of cooperation for the upcoming elections.
A five-member UNDP delegation arrived at the Election Commission's office at 11 am, where they engaged in discussions about the commission's needs and the ways in which the UNDP could assist.
Since 2005, the UNDP has been directly supporting all elections in Bangladesh, providing a range of services including technical advice, logistics, training, voter list preparation, and raising public awareness.
UN's Resident Representative Gwen Lewis reiterated the UNDP's commitment to supporting Bangladesh's electoral process.
Chief Adviser Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus had earlier indicated that the 13th National Parliamentary Elections could be held in late 2025 or early 2026.
