Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A M M Nasir Uddin has announced that all registered political parties will be eligible to participate in the upcoming national elections.
He made this statement on Saturday (11 January) at an event in Sylhet.
The CEC said that time will determine whether the Awami League retains its registration and participates in the upcoming national election.
“Whether the Awami League maintains its registration and takes part in the election depends on time. The Election Commission is actively addressing this issue,” said the CEC.
The CEC stated that the Election Commission (EC) plans to introduce new strategies for political party registration based on the recommendations of the Reform Commission.
He further clarified that the upcoming elections will not use Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and will follow a structured framework aligned with the timeline set by the Chief Adviser.
He said expatriates will have the opportunity to cast their votes in the national elections.
When addressing local government elections, Nasir Uddin avoided detailed remarks but noted that conducting all elections on a single day, as some have suggested, is impractical.
The CEC assured that journalists would be free to work independently during the national elections, emphasising the importance of following established guidelines to ensure smooth and impartial election coverage.
Nasir Uddin confirmed that legal actions would be taken against individuals involved in financial corruption linked to voter ID modifications in the past.
