Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasiruddin has declared that there is no scope for adhering to conventional methods, asserting the Election Commission's commitment to restoring the voting rights of 18 crore citizens and conducting fair, transparent, and impartial elections.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the training programme for voter list data collectors and supervisors at the Election Training Institute in Agargaon on Sunday (5 January), Nasiruddin emphasised the need for professionalism among those involved in election-related activities.
He assured that the Commission would not make intentional errors during its operations.
Election Commissioner Brigadier General (Retd) Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah warned against participating in voter list inclusion for monetary gains.
He stressed the importance of dealing with deceased, fraudulent, and new voters with equal diligence. Sanaullah expressed confidence that the Commission would overcome public apathy towards voting, claiming that trust in the system had improved and people were eager to vote again.
Measures would be taken to prevent any misuse of votes.
Another Election Commissioner, Anwarul Islam Sarkar, highlighted the necessity of addressing the malpractices that tainted previous elections.
He assured that the Commission would take all necessary steps to rectify the situation and ensure no irregularities, negligence, or lack of transparency in updating the voter list.
Election Commissioner Tahmina Ahmed underscored that law and conscience would be the commission's tools for conducting fair elections.
She clarified that the Commission would not bear responsibility for any malicious actions by its officials.
Lastly, Election Commissioner Abdur Rahmanal Masud called for transparency and responsibility to restore public trust in elections.
He emphasised that an accurate voter list is a prerequisite for fair elections and urged for utmost caution and diligence in the voter list updating process.
