Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus will hold a pivotal meeting with ambassadors from the 27 European Union (EU) countries on 9 December, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Toufiq Hasan during the weekly briefing on Thursday (5 December).
He stated that the meeting would also include an envoy from another nation, bringing the total number of participants to 28.
The discussions will revolve around trade services, climate change challenges, and the Rohingya crisis.
In addition, the dialogue will cover the state of bilateral relations between Bangladesh and the United Kingdom in an open and candid manner.
Previously, on 17 November, during a national address marking the interim government's first 100 days, Dr Yunus had announced the forthcoming visit of the EU ambassadors.
Reflecting on global diplomatic support following the ousting of the Awami League government by a mass uprising, Dr Yunus shared his interactions with world leaders during the United Nations General Assembly in September.
Among them were heads of state and senior officials from the United States, the EU, Canada, Italy, the Netherlands, and the UN Secretary-General, who, he said, pledged robust support for the new administration.
Following his return to Dhaka, Dr Yunus noted that ambassadors from these nations met with him voluntarily, reiterating their governments’ commitments and embarking on developing fresh frameworks of assistance.
Even diplomats stationed in Delhi made special visits to Dhaka to convey their nations' solidarity.
Dr Yunus highlighted that 20 EU ambassadors are based in Delhi, while seven are stationed in Dhaka.
For the first time, all 27 EU envoys will gather collectively in Dhaka for discussions with the government.
“Never before has such a large number of EU diplomats convened in this manner,” he remarked.
He emphasised that this historic assembly signifies the EU's dedication to fostering high-level economic cooperation and providing tangible support to Bangladesh during this transitional period.
