Adviser to the Ministry of Youth and Sports Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan issued a stern warning on Saturday, stating that law enforcement agencies will take strict action if any organisation linked to mass killings or banned parties attempts to hold political events.
The statement was made in a post on his verified Facebook account, following the announcement of a planned demonstration by the Awami League (AL) on Sunday (10 November). This marks the party's first major gathering in the city since the ousting of the AL government on 5 August, which came in response to a large-scale mass uprising.
The Awami League has called for a demonstration at Shaheed Nur Hossain Square at Zero Point in Dhaka on Sunday (12 November), at 3 pm, in observance of Shaheed Nur Hossain Day. The rally will also serve as a demand for democratic rights.
