The jewelers have lowered the price of gold by Tk2,520 per bhori for the domestic market.

Beginning on Wednesday (November 13), the price of each bhori, or 11.664 grams of 22-carat gold ornaments, will be Tk136,188 rather than Tk138,708 on Tuesday.

The Bangladesh Jewellers Association's (Bajus) standing committee on pricing and price monitoring made the decision during a meeting on Tuesday (12 November) in Dhaka, the association stated in a statement.

For the first time, the price of gold in the country exceeded Tk1 lakh per bhori on 20 July of last year.

Bangladesh requires between 20 and 40 tons of gold every year.

More than 80% of Bangladesh's need for the precious metal is fulfilled by smuggled gold.
