On 20 September 1990, both East and West Germany took a decisive step toward ending decades of division as their respective parliaments ratified the Unification Treaty, a historic agreement to reunify the two states.
This pivotal moment followed months of political negotiations and peaceful demonstrations, culminating in a formal vote by the Volkskammer (East Germany) and the Bundestag (West Germany), where an overwhelming majority approved the treaty.
The reunification, set for 3 October 1990, marked the beginning of a new chapter for Germany, symbolising the end of the Cold War and the dawn of a united Europe, following nearly 45 years of separation since World War II.
