Pantone has named Mocha Mousse, a rich and earthy hue evoking chocolate and coffee, as its Colour of the Year for 2025.
Following 2024’s ethereal Peach Fuzz, this selection continues the trend of food-inspired tones, reflecting a global appetite for comfort amidst a world described as being in a state of "permacrisis."
According to Laurie Pressman, vice president of the Pantone Colour Institute, the choice aims to encapsulate “our desire for comfort and wellness, and the indulgence of simple pleasures that we can gift and share with others.”
She elaborates that Mocha Mousse offers a sense of warmth and reassurance, qualities increasingly sought after in uncertain times.
The new shade will not only influence fashion and design but will also make a prominent appearance in collaborations with renowned brands.
Motorola, furniture maker Joybird, and stationers Post-It have already partnered with Pantone to showcase products inspired by the colour.
In a first for Pantone’s Colour of the Year, the London Eye will feature a custom light show illuminated in Mocha Mousse, bringing the comforting tone to the heart of the UK’s capital.
With its deep connections to the delectable qualities of chocolate and coffee, Mocha Mousse is poised to become a symbol of indulgence and solace in 2025, offering a sense of continuity and calm in an ever-changing world.
