A Dhaka court has issued a travel ban for 18 former ministers and 8 former Members of Parliament (MPs).
Senior Special Judge of Dhaka Metropolitan Court Mohammad As-Sams Joglekar Hossain issued the order on Monday (2 September), said Amir Hossain, a court inspector for the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
The individuals affected by the travel restriction include former state ministers Nasrul Hamid Bipu, Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, Junayed Ahmed Palak and Zakir Hossain.
Other notable figures include former ministers Imran Ahmed, Tipu Munshi, Enamur Rahman, Anisul Huq, Faridul Haque Khan, Golam Dastagir Gazi, Anwar Hossain, Hasanul Haq Inu; former state ministers Enamul Haque, Swapan Bhattacharya, Md Tajul Islam, Md Zahid Ahsan Russell and Mohibul Rahman.
In addition, the travel ban extends to former MPs Benjir Ahmed, Kazi Nabil Ahmed, Shahidul Islam Bakul, AKM Sarwar Jahan, Sheikh Afzal Uddin, Meher Afroz, Abu Saeed Al Mahmood, and Sheikh Helal Uddin.
Previously, ACC Deputy Director Md Jahangir Alam had sought a travel ban on ten former ministers and three MPs, while another ACC Deputy Director Md Mostafizur Rahman, had requested a travel ban for eight former ministers and five MPs.
The court has issued this travel ban following the hearings of these separate petitions presented by Public Prosecutor Mahmud Hossain Jahangir on behalf of the ACC.
