Saudi Arabia has expressed its interest to recruit more Bangladeshi workers, particularly farmers and experts, to support its green initiatives.

Riyadh’s Ambassador to Dhaka Essa Al-Duhailan discussed the possibilities during his first meeting with Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud on Thursday, as reported by Arab News.

Al-Duhailan said, "We discussed the Saudi Green Initiative and Middle East Green Initiative to involve farmers and experts from Bangladesh in planting more than 50 billion trees in the region." He further mentioned that the Saudi side was "open to any suggestions and cooperation."

Currently, nearly 3 million Bangladeshis live and work in Saudi Arabia.

With the implementation of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, it is anticipated that more Bangladeshi professionals, especially those with relevant skills related to the vision’s projects, will find employment in Saudi Arabia.

Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman launched the green initiatives in 2021, with a focus on combating climate change and preserving the environment for future generations in Saudi Arabia and the Middle East. The initiatives include measures such as emissions reduction, afforestation, and land and sea protection.

The ambitious goal of planting 50 billion trees across the Middle East is equivalent to restoring 200 million hectares of degraded land. One-fifth of the trees will be planted within the Kingdom’s borders, while the remaining 40 billion are set to be planted across the broader region in the coming decades.
