14 arson attacks in 16 hours till this morning: fire service data

A total of 14 arson attacks were recorded within a 16-hour period until 9:30 am today, according to statistics from the Fire Service.

During these incidents, a train, two pick-up vans, two lorries, and a truck were set ablaze. Additionally, a Buddhist Temple in Cox's Bazar and eight educational institutions fell victim to arson, as mentioned in the report.

Of the incidents, four individuals were killed after arsonists set fire to the Benapole Express train in Dhaka. Other fire incidents were reported across different regions, with four in Dhaka division, two in Sylhet division, four in Chattogram, and three in Mymensingh.

At least 32 fire engines worked to douse the blazes, the statistics added.

Besides, a time bomb was found on a bus traveling from Dhaka to Cox’s Bazar on the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway in the Siddhirganj area of Narayanganj on Friday night (5 January).

In the face of escalating acts of sabotage on trains, the West Zone of Bangladesh Railway has decided to suspend the operations of 10 trains until Sunday.
