The frequency of metro trains has been increased, reducing the headway from 10 minutes to 8 minutes, Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) Managing Director MAN Siddique said today.
The DMTCL Managing Director disclosed the information during a press conference held at the Expatriate Welfare building in the capital’s Eskaton area this afternoon (15 February).
However, MAN Siddique added that the train will run every 8 minutes during the peak hours.
To accommodate the increased frequency, the number of trains has been raised from 152 to 178, the DMTCL managing director further explained.
Currently, the train operates every 10 minutes during peak hours and every 12 minutes during off-peak hours.
According to the new schedule, the first metro train from Uttara will depart for Motijheel at 7:10 am and will continue to run every 10 minutes until 7:30 am.
During the peak hour from 7:30am to 11:49am, the metro train will run every 8 minutes.
Again, in off-peak hours from 11:49am to 3:13pm, the train will run every 12 minutes.
And in the final phase from 3:13pm to 8pm, the train will also run every 8 minutes.
Meanwhile, the first metro train from Motijheel will depart for Uttara at 7:30 am and run every 10 minutes until 8:00 am. After that, it will run every 8 minutes during the peak hours from 8:00 am to 12:30 pm.
The trains will run every 12 minutes during off-peak hours from 12:31 pm to 3:52 pm.
Later in the afternoon, again from 3:53 pm to 8:40 pm, metro trains will run every 8 minutes.
