BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has accused the government of conspiring to make Bangladesh dependent on foreign powers.

"Bangladesh has not benefited from the agreements with India. We have not received our share of the water from the Teesta and other rivers, and border killings have not stopped. The government is actually conspiring to make the country dependent on foreign powers," he said on Monday (July 1) afternoon at a prayer ceremony at the mausoleum of Ziaur Rahman in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka.

He added, "Currently, Bangladesh is under a fascist government system. A one-party rule has been imposed."

Mirza Fakhrul said, "The ruling party, Awami League, has destroyed the country's institutions. People do not get justice, they are suffering economically, and there is no rule of law. Under this government, Bangladesh has become a failed state."

The prayer ceremony was organised by Advocate Zainul Abedin, the newly appointed president of the Nationalist Lawyers' Forum, to commemorate his new position.
