An Awami League rally is underway at Bangabandhu Avenue in Gulistan, Dhaka, in celebration of the 75th anniversary of the ruling party.
The rally began at 3pm in front of the Awami League's central office.
Abu Ahmed Mannafi, President of Dhaka Metropolitan South Awami League, is presiding over the rally with Humayun Kabir, General Secretary of Dhaka Metropolitan South Awami League in moderation.
Awami League General Secretary and Minister of Road Transport and Bridges Obaidul Quader is scheduled to address the rally as the cheif guest.
Although the rally was set to start at 3 pm, party leaders and activists began gathering at Bangabandhu Avenue in small processions from 2 pm onwards.
Local councilors, Awami League members, and leaders of its affiliate and associate organisations have joined the rally in separate processions from each ward of the Dhaka South City Corporation.
This is the first major event organised by the Awami League in the capital since the last national election. On the same day, the BNP is also holding a rally in front of their central office at Nayapaltan.
