Four students from Jahangirnagar University (JU), including a leader of Chhatra League, were arrested today on allegation of raping a woman on campus last night after confining her husband in Mir Mosharraf Hossain Hall.

The arrested individuals include the prime accused BCL leader Mostafizur Rahman, along with Shagor Siddik, Hasan-Uz-Zaman from the International Relations Department, and Sabbir Hasan from Botany. Mostafizur served as the BCL unit's international affairs secretary.

Another prime suspect, Mamunur Rashid, who had prior acquaintance with the couple, and International Relations department student Md Murad, who was associated with the assault on the victim's husband, have been absconding since the incident.

Abdullahil Kafi, additional superintendent of Ashulia police, confirmed this during a press conference this afternoon.

The victim's husband filed a case over the incident with Ashulia Police Station early today.

According to the case statement, the incident took place at a wooded area near the Mir Mosharraf Hossain Hall around 9:30 pm last night.

Mamun had prior acquaintance with the couple, having been a former tenant at their residence in Ashulia. Additionally, Mustafizur and Mamunur shared past ties and occasionally resided together at the Mir Mosharraf Hossain Hall.

On the preceding evening, Mamunur asked the victim's husband to visit the campus. While her husband came to the campus, he was introduced to Mostafizur and Murad. At one stage, Mamun told the victim's husband that they would get some money from an electronics shop in Savar, but the shopkeeper did not want to pay. In exchange for that money, the victim's husband was asked to take a TV, refrigerator, and other furniture for the house.

Subsequently, the husband contacted her, requesting her presence on campus to deliver some of Mamun's belongings.

The victim recounted that Mustafizur and Mamun confined her husband to room 317 of block A of the hall. Upon her arrival at the campus, Mamun retrieved his clothes from her and stored them in the room. Mamun then directed her to meet her husband on the opposite side of the hall.

According to the victim's testimony, Mustafizur and Mamun escorted her to a nearby bush where they sexually assaulted her.

Following the incident, BCL released a statement announcing the permanent suspension of Mustafizur from the JU BCL unit.

The occurrence triggered immediate protests on campus, with hundreds of students congregating in front of the Mir Mosharraf Hossain Hall. They voiced their grievances through chants, demanding the expulsion of the perpetrators from the campus and justice for the victim.
