Around 83.04% of students passed as the results of this year’s Secondary School Certificate (SSC) SSC and equivalent exams were announced on Sunday (12 May).

The pass rate for male students is 81.57% while the pass rate for female students is 84.47%.

Education Minister Mohibul Hassan Chowdhury Nowfel along with the chairmen of all the education boards presented Prime Minister Hasina with a summary and statistics of the results at Ganabhaban at 10am.

“Those who have failed have nothing to be upset about. Study well and pass in the future. I will tell the parents that the one who failed is suffering in their mind. Many times they opt for self-harm out of heartache,” PM Hasina said.

She further said, “There have been times when months passed without results. Now results are available within 60 days. We consider this to be our biggest achievement in the last fifteen years. The number of students has increased.”

“Earlier only 54% of female students went to school. Now 98% go to school. We are giving free books. Giving scholarships and stipends,” she added.

Jashore Education Board has secured a 92.32% pass rate, the highest among the nine boards.

Sylhet, on the other hand, is at the bottom with a 73.35% pass rate.

The board was at the bottom with a 76.06% pass rate last year as well.

According to the education board website, the pass rate of Dhaka board is 83.92%, while it is 89.25% in Rajshahi board, 79.20% in Cumilla board, 89.13% in Barishal board, 82.80% in Chattogram board, 78.40% in Dinajpur board, and 84.97% in Mymensingh board.

This year's SSC and equivalent exams started on 15 February and ended on 12 March.

More than 2 million students sat for the exams across the country.

Results are usually published within 60 days of the completion of the examinations.

This year, 2,024,192 students registered for the exams under 11 education boards.

Of them, 1,606,879 students took the exams under the nine general education boards, 242,314 sat for Dakhil exams under the Madrasa Education Board, and another 126,373 under the Vocational or Dakhil (Vocational) exams under the Technical Education Board.

To get the results under general boards through SMS, candidates have to type SSC, the first three letters of the board name, followed by the candidate's roll number and the year, and send the message to 16222.
