Banglalink ceased its 3G services across the country on 5 May, becoming the first mobile network operator to do so.

Meanwhile, Robi Axiata Limited is also gradually phasing out its 3G operations, starting with Chapainawabganj, Naogaon, and Natore.

In 2013, all operators in the country launched 3G services. However, due to the decline in 3G device usage and the increasing popularity of 4G devices, the usage of 2G and 3G has decreased.

Banglalink has stated that discontinuing 3G will enable the operator to allocate more bandwidth and other resources to the 4G network.

CEO Eric Aas of Banglalink said, "As a digital operator, we aim to provide seamless connectivity and innovative services to our customers. By increasing the spectrum and other resources allocated for 4G, we will take the customer experience to new heights.

"As a guide to this successful transformation, we are committed to accelerating Banglalink's dedicated journey towards a 'Smart Bangladesh' by enhancing our customers' 4G experience with high-speed and modern infrastructure.”
